Remarkably useful, blessedly simple, and once you have one, you won't want
to give it up...
Seriously. I love this thing. Because it hangs around your neck, you don't
have to worry about clipping it onto the book or mess with it when you
turn pages. You can also lay it flat on a table and use it as a kind of
mini-lamp. I've also found myself using the Beam & Read for
nonliterary purposes, such as descending into our poorly lit basement, or
ascending into our equally poorly lit attic. It would be especially handy
in a power outage.

Both Beam N Read LED lights could serve a thousand purposes.
It works great for any type of reading: books, magazines, documents, kindles, nooks, and E-Readers. But it also works as a flashlight for any occasion and is especially helpful because it's hands free.

An item you weren't sure you needed quickly becomes indispensable
Superior to book lights or headlamps
So useful is this little light, it should also be called Beam N Craft, Beam N Stitch,
Beam N Camp, Beam N Check-on-Baby, even Beam N Do-Latenight-Housework, as I did late
one night when the urge to sort laundry in our bedroom came over me as my husband and
kids drifted off to sleep. The manufacturers explain, "For Light Anywhere, Anytime That
Won't Disturb Others." Exactly!...
...I've used lightweight LED headlamps when camping to read and work, but the Beam N read
is vastly more comfortable. With the Beam N Read, the light is aimed down at the floor when
you get up from your work to stretch or get a snack...
...I really love the basic Beam N Read. Since I received it, I use it all the time for my late
night bouts of creativity. My sleeping husband is so grateful!

This Beam N Read Review is one of my favorite reviewed products in 2012! Why? Confession... I have trouble reading or doing sewing in low light. Anything up close, with low light and tiny letters...Forget about it!... I have tried a zillion book lights and guess what? Most don't work. They either fall off the book or fall off the computer or just aren't bright enough. Well...the Beam N Read sheds light on all your up close work! I can now go back to cross stitching (which I LOVE!) but I have given it up because I simply cannot see because I can't get enough light on my work. What's not to love about this super convenient product that hangs around your neck and rest solidly on your chest with an adjustable strap?
Shelley Zurek,
Still Blonde After All These Years
The light of course can be used for more than outdoor cooking. Do you enjoy reading but don't always have enough light. This is perfect. Need to work under the hood of your car but don't have enough light. Again, this is great. Maybe you need to work under the sink or behind an appliance where we all know lighting is at a minimum. You got it, perfect for that. It's even good for sneaking a peek at the baby during the night without waking him/her up or a private trip for a midnight snack you don't want to share. After having worked in a hospital and being a patient I can even see this coming in handy for making rounds, checking patients and IV's on the midnight shift without startling the patient awake without having to turn on the huge, bright overhead light. An added bonus of the 6 LED light was the magnifier. This was treat for threading that needle or reading fine print.

Overall, I liked the Beam 'n' Read lights. The flexibility to lay them on a
table or flat surface and have a wide beam of light made them especially useful.
If you need a versatile booklight/flashlight,
though, you really can't go wrong with one of these, as they offer
flexibility in a small package.

The handy tool makes it easy to use light anywhere without disturbing those around you, like on a plane, or when good light for reading or crafting just doesn't exist (camping trips, power outtages, etc.). It can be used in all circumstances where low light is an issue. Peggy Marsh

We live in the Mojave Desert and I like to go walking at night. This hands free light was the perfect solution to my problem as we have areas that I walk that don't have lights and we have coyotes and bobcats that roam the base at night so I needed some illumination. My hubby also likes that oncoming cars can see me when I'm wearing mine and the light wont blind them as they pass me. I feel alot safer on my walks now.

My new favorite light for the Kindle, ...Really lightweight and flexible... I now usually have it on when I'm home. Going downstairs at night or to a darkened room, or when I just can't see something well enough, I can save on lights by just turning this on, which is done by flipping up the hood/reflector... I love that it's always available when I need extra light... I was just tired of clipping on a light and adjusting it... Amazon doesn't make this easy to find, but it is extremely useful, in my view, for any e-reader.
Andrys Basten, Editor/Publisher, KindleWorld.blogspot.com
I found the BNR was actually perfect for reading in the dark on my Kindle, though I did have to adjust the lights a bit to get the right coverage. If I aimed it straight at the Kindle there was some glare, but setting the light on my chest and the Kindle just outside the main beam created the perfect amount of ambient light for reading. My conclusion would be that if you have need of a reading light, the Beam N Read might well do the job for you. It's small, feels pretty durable, and provides a novel solution to the aggravating problem of lights getting in your way that I personally feel is far superior to a head lamp. Best of all, at $19.95 on Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN), it's affordable enough for anybody.

Since I don't care for the way clip-on reading lights change the balance of an ereader, I thought it would be interesting to see how well the Beam N Read lights work... I found that both units work as advertised... The LEDs are bright and provide a wider, more even light than clip-ons. They also come in handy for a number of other uses like needlework, crafts, and camping...
I found the build quality to be quite durable. Shortly after receiving them, I accidentally dropped the unit with 6 lights from about 4 feet onto the concrete floor. It landed with a crash. Batteries went flying everywhere. I cursed that I hadn't even had a chance to try it out yet. But I rounded up the batteries and stuck them back in and it still works...
Overall, I found the Beam N Read lights work well enough to feel comfortable recommending them. Both are pretty lightweight—basically just the weight of the batteries—and sit comfortably on your chest. Once you start reading you forget that it's there. Nathan, Editor/Publisher,

If any of you have ever tried to hand sew in a hotel room I know you'll agree... the lighting is awful. This light has 6 led bulbs and throws off a nice amount of light making hand sewing much, much easier. It has a hinge to allow you to adjust the direction of the light. Love that... Quite honestly, I probably wouldn't have given this light a second glance if it hadn't been sent to me for a review. I have a nice bright light next to my chair where I do most of my handwork, so why would I need to strap a light around my neck? It didn't take me long to figure out that this little light is invaluable for anyone who does any kind of handwork! The extra bright light directed towards your stitching (without obstructing your view) makes all the difference in the world while stitching, especially when there isn't any natural light available. The Beam N Read is lightweight and has a comfortable, easy to adjust neck strap. It only took a few minutes of use and I was hopelessly hooked on my Beam N Read!

Boy do I love it!.
Let me begin by saying that as I just turned 61, my eyes aren't what they used to be. I began using the Beam N Read while I was sitting in my favorite leather lounge chair. I usually am sewing or crocheting in the evening, and the overhead light just doesn't cut it. The Beam N Read light illuminates perfectly!
What else can I say about the Beam N Read? Lots!
It is well built and a solid piece of equipment!
The head of the unit pivots up, so you can really adjust the light to the area you are working on, like hand sewing.
You can use Beam N Read with your laptop while you are are in bed.
It is lightweight to wear around your neck.
Far more superior to any head lamp or clip on light.
When used with the Kindle, it doesn't cause a glare.
So for all of you crafters, sewers, knitters or crocheters, and avid book readers, this is a must!

As a quilting, sewing and embroidery enthusiast for many years, I've certainly used many well known brands of lights. Thus, I can truly say that the Beam n Read light is the great product. It has a bright LED light, yet soft on the eyes. To clarify, it is much easier on the eyes than any other bright light sewing light I've ever used previously...I found I enjoyed the Beam n Read for these easy feeling it left on my eyes. Truly it has become one of my favorite lights. And I love the portability. Great, great light and a very reasonable price.

Of course I've used the Beam and Read for my knitting, but also
reading late at night and early morning. Then, just the other night, I

KNITTING TOOLS: NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION
This is a GREAT light. It is very bright and powerful and quite nice when I'm sitting knitting in the living room or my room and the lights are low for ambience or reduced glare on the television. The light is also great for using with the Kindle (ooh, I want one of those Fire ones ... but the original with keyboard is working just fine too!) as it has wider coverage than many of the "book lights".

What an incredible opportunity I've had to review this amazing Beam N Read LED 6 Deluxe light. Not only is it great tool for sewing and quilting, you can use it to read at night, or in your car for sewing or reading or even reading a road map...
And I have to tell you that reading at night is so much easier with the BeamNRead light.

Wow, I love this light! I suffer from macular degeneration and as you might know, that means we need a lot of light to help us in our daily routine.
It has 6 LED lights, two filters, a magnifying lens and a strap for your neck that is adjustable so it can be set to your desired distance. It does not put forth any heat, unlike other lights that can make it too warm to work. Which is wonderful in the warmer weather.

I just had to add that this light truly is a delight to travel with. It doesn't take up much space, is light to have around your neck, you can adjust it to where you need the light to be and it doesn't bother anyone else in the process... I used this light on my trip and I do believe it will be my traveling companion for now on. Thinking of getting my mother one and my older friend who has trouble seeing.

Think of all the sewing/quilting related tasks we do routinely that could benefit from this light, like hand applique:...or for doing the hand embroidery stitches of wool felt applique:... or sewing the binding to the backside of the quilt, or sewing a label onto the back of a quilt,...the list goes on and on. One thing that's really impressed me about this light is that it makes it possible for me to complete my hand work in places where it's previously been impossible to do so. Now I can do hand applique on long car rides after dark, or when I've traveled to teach and am spending the night in a hotel room with lousy lighting. Thanks to the Beam N Read Light, I can reclaim these lost hours and turn them into productive time!

Let's face it. Stitching in the dark can be painful! For those of us with mature to overly-mature eyesight, it is important to have good lighting when you sew. So I suggest a light like this one called the Beam N Read.

My husband likes to watch movies in the dark. So dark that I can't knit,
can't read, can barely see the cat sitting on my lap. So imagine his surprise
when the opening credits ran on our latest DVD rental and I flipped on my new,
handy "hands-free" light. It didn't bother him at all and I was able to make
great progress on the baby blanket I was knitting. Also included is a lightweight
Fresnel magnifier which worked like a charm on a night-time nature walk at a local

I recently went on a road trip with 4 other knitters in a van. Knowing there would be knitting during the trip, I packed the sample Beam N Read I'd been sent to review. It didn't take long till the sun went down and we needed light to be able to continue to see our work.
I passed the light first to Cari, ...Cari proclaimed very clearly that she loved the Beam N Read and would absolutely buy one.
For Julia, she didn't like the light as a craft light. She found she did like it when she tried to read her book in the very back of the van, and continued to read for a long while.
One thing we all noticed: if any of us had been wearing [our usual standby, the camping headlamp], we'd get an eyeful of bright light when they faced us and would have to turn away. With the Beam N Read, the light is held on the chest, aiming down at what we're working on or reading, so we could chat and look at each other comfortably. We liked this a lot.
Me? I think it's a very handy tool ...I'm glad this product was sent in for us to test. It's the kind of thing I might not have tried out on my own, but now that I've put it to use, I think it's very useful and will likely find myself reaching for it more and more often. These lights really do provide more than sufficient light for crochet work. I used the LED 6 Light while chaperoning a high school band trip. We were on school buses, and it was quite dark on the drive back home. I was able to use the light with the yellow filter and not cause any vision problems for the bus driver. Travel Tech: Low-Priced Essentials for Every Trip There's lots to like about this little lamp on a lanyard. Most importantly, it's plenty bright to illuminate your personal space, whether reading (any electronic or paper-based book, magazine, etc.) or taking an evening stroll from your cabin. It can shine 120 hours at full blast, up to ten times longer than other battery-based booklights (which will crumple a map or newspaper under their weight). It's easy to use: just flip the head up or down to turn it on or off. And it's got a flat base, in case you want to rest it on a table or the ground. It also comes with a clip-on red filter, great for tiptoeing out of a tent without blinding-or stepping on-your mates. Scott Tharler,

Most useful equipment during a power outage
A Beam N Read brand hands-free light. It's advertised for quilters, knitters and other needleworkers but believe me this unit is the most useful light in our house. It runs on a few batteries. The unit has a strap that hangs around your neck. The unit itself rests on your belly. You adjust it so the light hits whatever you're working on. Hands-free operation. A switch allows you to use three or six LED lamps. The light is uniform and so steady you can use it to read.

The Bottom Line: For hands-free night walking, reading, and other tasks,
this hands-free LED light is a great solution.
I enjoyed using this for night walking around my house and yard, when I
might have used a flashlight. I think this is a great item to have for
utility use around the house, and emergency use for the home, office or

great for emergency preparedness.
I really enjoyed using the Beam N Read for reading in bed or reading maps
when out walking at night. It has a larger coverage area than most clip-on

Everyone knows those senior citizens who are criminally cool...And you don't have the foggiest idea what to get them this holiday season.
Consider a hands-free light from ASF Lightware Solutions, which will allow those seniors to geek out, craft, and exercise unencumbered... The lights come in handy for anything from reading e-books on the plane (without disturbing others), to crafting (e.g., knitting, quilting, needlecrafts), to outdoor activities (e.g., camping, fishing), to emergency situations (e.g., power outages). One day you'll be as cool as those hipster seniors. In the meantime, you can aspire to be as tragically hip as they are by getting them a great gadget this holiday season. As a book reviewer, I was interested in finding out how helpful [Beam N Reads]
would be for reading books and magazines. Due to my advancing age, I have joined
the senior crowd with a weakening eyesight that requires that I use reading glasses.
Would the Beam N Read Lights provide an extra boost?..when it came to reading in
bed...While the 3 Beamer Light was fairly helpful, I definitely preferred the 6
Beamer Light... I have also used the Beamer Light while reading in my car and
also sitting in my garden lounge chair during the early evening hours when natural
light is not very strong. In both instances, the Beamer Light proved to be very
very effective. The bottom line is that the Beam N Read Lights
is a worthwhile investment and will prove its worth in a multitude of situations.

Awesome Lights!
I have both the 3 light and the 6 light and both are awesome! I've used them
both for crocheting in dim light or when a bit of extra light was needed and
the added magnifier is a great bonus! We also like to attend antique auctions
and have used the lights many times when trying to locate the maker's marks on
items. I am seriously considering ordering at least one more because my husband
keeps borrowing mine! Great Product indeed! (Janie, GA)
Best ever reading light. I use it for traveling and at home for any task that needs extra illumination on it. It works beautifully with my Kindle. Thank you. (Karen, Hillsboro, OR)
My wife took my Beam N Read 3 LED and will not give it back. So I've ordered a 6 LED for myself. Your light's design is the best, and I've tried a half dozen different makes and models. (Mike, NY)
I bought this light for myself after reading some 'book light reviews' online and after having purchased/discarded many other lights that just did not live up to expectations. LOVE IT. my family makes fun of me mercilessly but function wins! now i am buying lights for my daughter and her college friends for their dorm room reading! (Colleen, OH)
I've found many uses for the beam & read. Both in dark rooms at the hospital (to keep from bothering the patients), to working on crafts during a movie (family likes the room dark) and of course, reading the Kindle. (Karen, intensive care nurse)
First, I want to say thank you for your product. I have had one of the original ones that Avon sold almost 20 years [ago]. I taught school on Guam for 14 years. It was used during power outages, typhoons and even during the aftermath of some earthquake damage. There were years that we lost power everyday for a few hours. Lots of papers were graded using it. I even used it to walk at night. It has been used during lots of travel in Europe and Asia too. It is still going strong. It even survived some battery leakage. I used some gloves and some vinegar. I let it dry, put in new batteries and work great. Now that I am living back in South Carolina, it still gets used for bad storms and even for just reading books, etc. It works great with my Kindle. (Gail, SC)
Best Booklight.
I love this booklight! Whenever my husband and I drive someplace, I bring my
book along and he always complains about the light. But this booklight shines
directly on the pages. It hangs around your neck so you don't have to keep
adjusting it like you do with a clipon. It's also great if you like to read in
bed. (Kathleen, NY)
My second.
The concept of this is brilliant. Instead of trying to attach
the light to the book (how's that gonna work if I want to read The New Yorker
or The New York Times in bed??), this one attaches the light to you, facing
out at the book or magazine or newspaper or knitting – – or if you're in a motel
room, it will help you find your way to the bathroom (Evelyn, CA)
Perfect needlework light.
I've tried just about every needlework light there is and have never found one
that was just right until now. It hangs around the neck and sits flat on the
chest without getting in the way at all. There is absolutely no shadow at all
on my counted cross stitch fabric, which has always been a problem and no cord
at all to get in the way. You can get an A/C pack, but I wouldn't want it. The
way it is with the battery, you don't even know it's there. You just have
really good light. (Kathy)
Great light for reading or crafts. This is a fantastic light!
I like the fact it sits around the neck, rather than having to be clamped to a
book. This makes it great for reading or, in my case, knitting. The light
itself has just the perfect amount of brightness - enough to see, but not too
glaring, and it has 3 LED bulbs, so the light shines on a bigger area than
other lights I've tried. The magnifiers make it possible for me to read, or
knit, without having to wear my reading glasses. I travel a lot, and this is a
lifesaver on planes. (The overhead light never seems to be quite enough, or is
never angled in the right place.) (Jamie, NV)
Best reading light ever!
Won't keep the spouse awake. This reading light has saved my marriage! I can
read perfectly with it and not bother my spouse. In fact, the Beam N Read
light is so good, that I now prefer to read with it instead of the "big"
reading lamp next to my bed. (Miniaturist.Com, VT)
This light works for needlepoint – –
subtle color differences can be seen. I am able to make significant progress
on a needlepoint picture because this light is as good as daylight in working
on my project. Before I purchased this light, I had to lay my picture aside
when the sun went down. (Sandra, Nebraska)
It's the beam & read... It is a godsend for knitting in dark pubs
which I do quite a bit. Also the coffee shop I knit in is dark. (Gwyneth, posted on Yarnharlot.ca)
This was a life saver for my reading habit in dimly lit European hotels.
Much better than any clip on book light I tried. Also good for crafts.
….. I love this product and plan to give it as a holiday gift. (Susan,

Have owned a Beam N Read for 10ish years, love it ... camping reading
light! Everyone agrees your lights are the best reading lights anywhere!

They are absolutely great for camping and put out enough light that I can cook in the dark in a pinch.
I've even cross-country skied with my old one. There are various models, but ours is the simplest...one bulb and 4 AA batteries. (Laura, crazyguyonabike.com)
I highly recommend the [Beam N Read Classic Hands Free Light]. I have used it for years.
It hangs around your neck and provides a wide area of light for easy reading. The light goes on when your head is lifted, and the angle can be adjusted. ...
It's great on airplanes when the overhead light doesn't work. I keep it by my bed in hotels to use for reading, to get up at night or in case of a fire alarm and evacuation. I have used the light many times in our home during power outages. (J.S. International Travel News)
My wife and I are enthusiastic users of your fine lamp and have bought very many over the years. (New York, NY)
Thanks for creating a product that over the years has proven to be convenient,
quality construction, and well designed. (WA)
My Beam N Read is about 6 years old and has been through several

My Beam n Read was the only source of light we had for several days
during Hurricane Wilma. We were so glad we had it! (Deerfield Beach, FL)
These people are terrific.
Called to ask a question and they couldn't have been more helpful. Love my
Beam N Read and it sold itself to many friends and acquaintances.
Thanks.” (Gerri, OR)

Someone asked about knitting in the car after dark. I have been using a *beam and read*
light for a few years now. I wear it around my neck and it shines right on my knitting, works great.
